Rockhounding is an exciting treasure hunt for all ages! Hidden beneath so many dull and ordinary surfaces, dedicated rockhounds uncover beautiful rocks, minerals, and hidden gems.

After our road trips in search of rocks, Larry carefully inspects each find and decides which stones will make the most beautiful cabochons. He slices the rock and uses a template to choose the cabochon shape, then saws around the stone to cut it out. Next, he takes the stone to the grinder to smooth and round the edges. Finally, he polishes it to a high luster. It’s a lengthy process, but he enjoys every step.
Although Larry has grinding, polishing equipment, and rock tumblers in his workshop, he especially enjoys doing much of this work at the local rock club, where he is an active and valued member and volunteer.
