rattles, medicine bags & more

Painting on rawhide and leather, for me, began about 10 years ago. I enjoy it very much, although I’m not, nor have I ever been, a hunter. There’s a kinship felt when working with animal hides and bone. As I paint cow skulls, rawhide drums and other natural surfaces, I feel a deepening connection and a respect for our creator and all living things. It has become my preferred canvas for my acrylic art. It’s not only a way to express my art, but it’s also a way that I can “bless the beasts”. My art gives them a second life.

Most of these pieces have been on display at Tortilla Flat, many have sold. I add new art work & artifacts about 4x year at both Tortilla Flat and Casa de Baca Gallery.
